St. Francis Children's Garden

in the garden

A physical manifestation of mission and curriculum

The most visible change of 2007 was the creation of our Children’s Garden. The idea of a school garden originated from a visioning discussion at a Board of Trustees retreat. Trustees envisioned students involved in a community vegetable garden. Once teachers and students got involved, a continuous evolution of the idea began that continues today as the garden takes shape. Many different members of our community—the Board, administration, faculty, parents, students and even an outside consultant or two—worked together to create a beautiful learning environment that will support the school’s curriculum throughout a student’s stay at St. Francis.

Tracey Williams has acted in the role of garden"expert"--a landscape architect who helped with everything from initial plans to obtaining plants for us. The Children's Garden was dedicated on Earth Day, 2007.
