Middle School: Empowering the Independent Thinker
In the Middle years, students are seeking the independence to stretch beyond home and classroom, while at the same time seeking the approval of the adults around them. They are beginning to think with a growing level of sophistication. St. Francis approaches these students as a unique group of learners, challenging them in an age-appropriate manner that bridges childhood and adolescence. Key components of instruction for Grades Five through Eight are relevant interdisciplinary projects, advisory programs, collaborative and cooperative problem solving, and a wide array of extracurricular activities. By the time students leave St. Francis, we have taught them to read critically, think independently and write analytically. They have learned to associate schoolwork with frank discussion, primary research and meaningful lab investigation. SFS graduates head off to the world beyond Goshen with the confidence to take risks and face challenges, and the motivation to find their own answers. | |
