Family Lantern Walk

Francis Parker School of Louisville - Goshen Campus 11000 U.S. Highway 42, Goshen, KY, United States

Celebrate World Kindness Day at the Inaugural SFS Family Lantern Walk St. Francis School Families and Friends: You are invited to join us for a lantern-lit kindness walk to celebrate World Kindness Day! This meditative, outdoor family walk - for all ages - will be on Friday, November 12, on our beautiful Goshen Campus in the fields and forest of our nature preserve.    Your children may have told you about the heart rock, a beautiful heart-shaped boulder in the center of the forest behind the School (which is still easily accessible by little legs). Each family will carry a lantern and make a journey together from the Play Shelter (near the Gym) to the heart rock and back to the Play Shelter along a pathway also lit by lanterns.    We will gather to celebrate kindness, belonging, compassion, and community!  We will welcome the darkness of the winter months by keeping our lights lit within. Together, we will create warmth and celebrate the light the world needs. This meditative walk will give each of us the opportunity to reflect on our own individual gifts and talents that we share with our community.    Food and drink will be provided (so as best to avoid young, hangry lantern walkers). As we gather at 5:30, you are welcome to enjoy pizza.  After the walk, we will enjoy warm beverages and snacks.  Please dress for the weather as this is a rain or shine event (in the case of extreme weather, the back-up date would be November 19 and a notice [...]

Thoughtful Series: Alcohol & Other Drugs Education by FCD (Goshen Campus)

Francis Parker School of Louisville - Goshen Campus 11000 U.S. Highway 42, Goshen, KY, United States

As part of our health education program and ongoing commitment to prevention and wellness, we have again invited Freedom from Chemical Dependency (FCD), a non-profit organization that provides substance abuse prevention education for schools, to join our community the week of February 28 - March 4. In addition to the work she will do with Middle and High School students and the faculty/staff, FCD Prevention Specialist Morgan Jones will present two different workshops for parents/guardians -- Tuesday, March 1 at 8:30 a.m. on the Downtown Campus and Wednesday, March 2 at 8:30 a.m. on the Goshen Campus -- to offer support and guidance in helping your children enjoy a drug-free adolescence. Each campus workshop will be tailored to the particular age group of that campus, but you are welcome to attend the presentation on either campus. The workshops will cover effective ways to communicate with your child about drugs and drug use, up-to-date facts about current drug use and trends, what to say about your own experiences with alcohol and/or drug experimentation, how to spot early warning signs of trouble and effective ways to respond, and more! FCD Prevention Specialists are highly trained professionals who have achieved long-term recovery from alcohol or other drug addictions. This unique perspective enhances the credibility of their message and provides students with role models for happy, healthy, drug-free living.  This program presents a perfect opportunity for discussing alcohol and other drug-related issues with your children/adolescents. Parental involvement is crucial to reduce the risks teenagers face. We want our students to hear from both [...]
