It’s been a great (and fast) first half of the year! As we head into the Holiday Break, we near the end of the second quarter, meaning progress reports are coming after we return and the school year is at its midpoint. This week is always a wild and festive affair with dress-up days, a Buddy holiday sing-along, and general excitement building to a crescendo all week. It also allows us to look back at the first half of the year and be grateful we get to work with these kids each day. I can’t begin to explain just how rewarding and fulfilling that is for all of us. I was reminded of it last Friday night when I escorted 5th graders Eleanor Kayrouz and Cyra Neimat to Actors Theatre of Louisville’s annual production of A Christmas Carol (this was an Imagine! auction item I offered). While I was a touch blasé about the production (on the inside), having seen it countless times, the two girls were over the moon and giggled incessantly during the production when they weren’t gasping at the ghosts’ otherworldly auras. Their wide-eyed fascination sparked me to enjoy the play in a way that was somewhat similar to old Mr. Scrooge’s epiphany at the end of the story. I was doing my best to fight back a few tears when Ebeneezer made his amends at the end, and was so grateful these two youthful 5th graders helped me to appreciate this most wonderful of holiday traditions once again. I’d like to wish you a renewed spark this holiday season and some heartwarming time with your families. We look forward to continuing our journey in 2019.
